Project 1
Content Creation - Video & Blog
The Challenge
The brand needed to increase engagement and viewership for organic content in a crowded feed. As an intern, I stepped into a fast-paced environment where the team needed a stronger video presence - and I ended up producing far more than my initial brief.
What I Did
- Conducted competitor analysis of 5–6 companies (Randstad, Hays, Ventia, Downer, PeopleIn) across LinkedIn and TikTok to identify content gaps and platform strategies
- Initiated the "People of Programmed" video series (produced 39 short-form videos that drove 3x more views and 13x higher engagement than standard organic content)
- Produced 6 long-form interview videos with custom thumbnails, repurposed from 4 informational interviews with internal marketing professionals
- Wrote 2 blog articles for the website, performing keyword research (e.g., "strategic workforce planning," "heat-safe rosters") to boost search visibility

Manage workforce planning on the line: a manager's checklist for heat-safe rosters & bushfire contingencies (Victoria)
Audience: Site/Ops Managers in food processing, packaging and warehousing (regional VIC)
Purpose: Make rosters safer in extreme heat, keep food out of the danger zone, and ensure bushfire-day readiness - without slowing the line.
Disclaimer: This article provides practical guidance and links to official resources. Always follow your company's WHS procedures, regulator directions, and the Food Standards Code.
Why rosters must bake in heat risk and HACCP/time–temperature limits
In food manufacturing, staffing decisions affect food safety as much as productivity. The Food Standards Code requires businesses to keep potentially hazardous food at specific temperatures and to cool and reheat safely; unless you can demonstrate an equivalent, validated system, you must meet those limits (FSANZ Standard 3.2.2). Practically, that means your roster and break patterns can't push product into the 5–60°C danger zone (FSANZ: keeping food at the right temperature).
Summer heat raises different risks: worker heat illness, lower concentration, and increased error rates. Managers should align schedules to heat-safe controls: hydration, acclimatisation, ventilation, and regular breaks - exactly the measures regulators recommend for extreme heat days (SafeWork NSW: media advisory, and their managing extreme heat guide with break guidance and control options).
The manager's heat-safe roster rules (you can adopt today)
- Shift timing: Move high exertion tasks to cooler hours. Split long tasks across early/late shifts to reduce mid-afternoon exposure (see SafeWork guidance on scheduling and regular breaks).
- Task rotation: Rotate between hot zones and cooler areas (or lower-exertion tasks) to limit cumulative heat load.
- Hydration stations: Place water within 30–50m of work areas; make hydration checks part of pre-shift and mid-shift routines (the SafeWork materials emphasise frequent breaks and water availability).
- Acclimatisation: Gradually increase exposure for new or returning workers; pair with a buddy system and supervisor checks.
- Ventilation: Maximise airflow in packaging halls and warehouses; consider local fans, shade, and temporary barriers to radiant heat.
- Supervision & escalation: Nominate a heat lead each shift to watch for symptoms and escalate; refresh first-aid awareness for heat-related illness.
Food safety never bends: keep product out of the danger zone
Your roster must respect the time–temperature rules:
- Keep food out of 5–60°C wherever possible and minimise time in this range (FSANZ: keeping food at the right temperature).
- Rapid cooling: from 60°C to ≤21°C within 2 hours, then ≤5°C within 4 hours; plan people coverage so these checks happen on time (FSANZ: cooling & reheating food).
- Reheat quickly to safe temperature before hot-holding; avoid repeated heat/cool cycles (FSANZ: processing food safely).
Manager moves: Assign “temperature stewards” per shift; tie their duties to specific clock times (e.g., 90-minute and 2-hour cooling checks) and don't schedule breaks that would clash with these critical control points.
Bushfire contingency for regional plants (Victoria)
When fire weather escalates, your priorities shift to evacuation decisions, staff safety, and communications:
- Triggers to leave: Understand the “leave early” principle; don't wait for smoke and flames - plan actions based on the Fire Danger Rating (CFA: leave early).
- Your bushfire plan: Write a simple, practiced plan (roles, routes, comms trees, asset protection tasks) so decisions are clear under stress (CFA: Your Bushfire Plan).
- Business readiness: Business Victoria's guidance covers evacuation leaders, assembly sites, and staff contact lists - and has templates you can adapt (Business Victoria: plan & prepare for a bushfire).
Manager moves: Nominate an Evacuation Lead, define routes/alternatives, maintain updated staff contact lists, and script SMS/email updates. Run a 10-minute toolbox talk before a forecast Extreme/Catastrophic day.
The Manager's Checklist (print-friendly)
Before the season
- Add heat-safe controls to your roster SOP (hydration, breaks, ventilation, acclimatisation).
- Assign temperature stewards and document cooling/reheating checkpoints.
- Build a bushfire plan (roles, triggers to leave, routes, comms tree); save in your intranet.
Daily / shift start
- Review weather & fire danger; confirm any roster adjustments.
- Check hydration station stock; verify ventilation in hot zones.
- Brief temperature stewards on CCP timing; stagger breaks accordingly.
During shift
- Enforce regular breaks in hot conditions; rotate tasks.
- Log cooling/reheating checks on time; escalate any risk to the line lead.
If fire danger escalates
- Follow triggers to leave; initiate the evacuation plan.
- Execute comms tree; confirm staff headcount at assembly site.

Strategic workforce planning for food & beverage manufacturing: a 6–12 month playbook
Audience: HR/Ops leaders at food & beverage plants (multi-site or regional)
Purpose: Build a forward plan that protects throughput, compliance, and safety across seasonality, shift changes, and operational transitions.
Disclaimer: This article provides practical guidance and links to official resources. Always follow your company's WHS procedures, regulator directions, and the Food Standards Code.
Why food & beverage workforce planning is different
Food, beverage and grocery manufacturing is Australia's largest manufacturing sector and a major regional employer. That scale means every staffing decision touches profitability, product integrity, and community livelihoods.
Unlike other industries, your roster must respect food-safety time–temperature limits (HACCP-style constraints). Cooling and reheating checks have to happen on time to keep food out of the 5–60°C “danger zone.” If these tasks slip, risk rises and waste follows.
In warmer months, planning must also integrate heat-risk controls (hydration, scheduling, ventilation, acclimatisation). Extreme heat can drive mistakes, slow lines, and harm workers if not managed - so build these controls into your roster logic.
The 6–12 month playbook (four phases)
Phase 1 - 0–30 days: baseline & governance
1) Build scenarios - Create steady-state, ramp-up, and maintenance window demand scenarios for each line. Note CCPs (e.g., cooling from 60°C to ≤21°C within 2 hours, then ≤5°C within 4 hours; rapid reheat to ≥60°C) and plan headcount so these checks never clash with breaks (a Critical Control Point (CCP) is a processing step where controlling time/temperature, or pH/water activity, prevents or significantly reduces food-safety hazards).
2) Skills & licence matrix - Map roles (processing, packaging, QA, sanitation, forklift, maintenance). Track qualifications and food-safety duties (probe-temperature checks, sanitation routines). Align training and competency to Standard 3.2.2 expectations.
3) Safety integration - Add heat-safe roster rules: schedule heavy work in cooler hours; set frequent breaks and hydration; improve ventilation; acclimatise new or returning workers. Document escalation steps (who calls a pause, when, and how).
4) Compliance guardrails - If you use contingent labour, embed a step to verify labour-hire licences and set SLAs that cover onboarding, PPE, pay/super compliance and incident escalation. In Victoria, hosts must only engage licensed providers.
Phase 2 - 30–90 days: demand, coverage & onboarding
1) Forecast demand with seasonality - Use historical orders, line-speed data and local calendar/weather patterns to plan shifts and surge cover. Most F&B operations face seasonal peaks (holidays, summer demand), which require temporary staffing and tighter schedule controls.
2) Roster architecture
- Align break timing to cooling/reheating checkpoints and temperature logs.
- Define rotation between hot/cold zones and lower-exertion tasks.
- Add hydration stations and rest-break frequency guidance for hotter conditions.
- Assign temperature stewards per shift - named people accountable for CCP checks and corrective actions.
3) Onboarding packs - Standardise food-safety SOPs (time–temperature, cleaning/sanitising) and heat/bushfire briefings. Make Day-1 readiness explicit: what each role must do, with laminated quick-reference cards near the line.
Phase 3 - 90–180 days: sourcing mix, skills pathways & resilience
1) Model mix: labour-hire vs direct casuals - Use labour-hire for surge capacity and hard-to-fill skills; keep direct casuals for predictable base load. Always check licence status and subscribe to provider status alerts.
2) Cross-training & licensing - Build a skills matrix and rotation plan so QA/temperature tasks and sanitation windows are always covered - even if a shift lead is absent. Refresh probe-use, logging discipline, and corrective actions.
3) Heat/bushfire playbooks (Victoria) - Create pre-approved adjustments (earlier starts, task swaps, extra hydration breaks), plus a bushfire plan (roles, routes, comms trees; triggers to leave early). Run 10-minute toolbox talks before forecast Extreme/Catastrophic days.
Phase 4 - 180–360 days: optimisation & compliance assurance
1) Quarterly audits
- Verify temperature logs and adherence to the two-stage cooling process; spot-check reheating practices.
- Review licence status of providers and SLA compliance (pay/super/PPE, induction records).
2) Continuous improvement
- Tweak rosters for thermal comfort and output (fans, airflow, shaded rest areas; shift timing in hotter months).
- Strengthen training on food-safety critical limits (time, temperature, pH/water activity) and sanitation.
3) Plan the next 12 months - Refresh demand forecasts; update skills pathways; lock in seasonal surge crews with licence-verified providers and pre-briefed induction packs.
The 9 building blocks of your plan (checklist)
- Scenario forecast & CCP map - cooling/reheat checkpoints and staffing.
- Skills/licence matrix - roles, qualifications, food-safety duties.
- Heat-safe roster rules - scheduling, breaks/hydration, ventilation, acclimatisation.
- Induction packs - FSANZ SOPs + heat/bushfire briefings.
- Sourcing mix - labour-hire vs direct casuals; licence checks + SLAs.
- QA & sanitation coverage - no gaps at CCPs or clean-down windows.
- Thermal comfort improvements - fans, airflow, shaded rest areas.
- Quarterly audits - temperature logs, provider licence status.
- 12-month refresh - seasonality, skills pathways, surge crews.

Ebook Coordination - Strategy & Project Management
Programmed's ebook is a corporate capability brochure - given to potential clients and partners to introduce the company's services. I was asked to help redesign it to align with the new PERSOL rebrand.
The Challenge
The original ebook needed a full refresh to align with the new PERSOL rebrand. Each marketing manager had their own sections, their own tone, and their own priorities. The challenge was to unify the content without losing each manager's expertise - while keeping the project on a strict deadline.
What I Did
- Led and coordinated a cross-functional editorial redesign of the Programmed & PERSOL ebook
- Managed input from 5 marketing managers (Rosie, Mackie, Jack, Billy, Michelle) and a designer
- Used an Excel comparison sheet to track original vs. proposed edits, ensuring consistent brand voice across all sections
